It all started with a bar…
Dave Brown and Mike Grimes are co-proprietors of Lowbar. Their East Nashville roots go back to the early 00’s when Grimes opened an East Side hang at the corner of 11th and Woodland St. and christened it Slow Bar. 3 blocks away, Brown was booking and managing a spot called Radio Café, both locations being pioneering watering holes/venues in the 5 Points area at a time when most Nashvillians were afraid to venture across the river into the East Side. Eventually the two became business partners in 8th Ave music venue, The Basement, and in 2015, with the help of Chris Farren and Chris ‘Falcon’ Van Belkom of Combustion Music, opened The Basement East. In 2024, with the help of general manager Phil Simpson and the incredible ideas and talents of Drew Mischke, Jim O’Shea, and Matt Bell of Rosemary and Beauty Queen, inspiration hit to add a new bar, Lowbar, to the business family.
Lowbar opened in October 2024, truly a family affair and always a team effort. Dave and Mike are psyched to provide a vibrant new locally owned underground hang for all.
